THIS SATURDAY TRAFFIC ALERT - 10/1


The Circle City Classic is THIS SATURDAY and downtown streets will be closed for the morning parade. We advise you not to drive through downtown on your way to Christel House this Saturday. Plan an alternate route to avoid delays.

NO ORCHESTRA A REHEARSAL ON THURSDAY, 10/7/10. Instead, there is an MYO event at The Courtyard of the Watermark in downtown Indianapolis. Directions and details printed on separate handout.

PLAY-A-THON
The Annual MYO Play-a-thon is scheduled for Saturday, October 9. Materials were distributed at the orientations; Student entry forms are due THIS WEEK!!

What is a Play-a-thon? The Metropolitan Youth Orchestra is hosting a Play-a-thon fundraiser and we need your participation! A play-a-thon is a massive public recital for which students raise sponsorships - a fundraiser that has proven successful for other music organizations. It’s very simple and can be a lot of fun!

We need everyone’s participation to make sure it succeeds. Remember: it takes a village! =)

MYO TUITION
Tuition for the fall semester is due September 30. If you wish to apply for tuition assistance, please complete the application also by the 30th. Payment plans are available.

YOUTH ECONOMIC LEADERSHIP SUMMIT
Orchestra A & B students need to enroll in the “2010 YES to Our Future” Jack and Jill Youth Economic Leadership Summit scheduled for Saturday, October 16 at Butler University. This is IMPORTANT financial planning/college information for youth in middle and high school. It’s FREE and open to MYO students. (Regular registration has closed.) See information on back.

"2010 YES To Our Future!" Youth Economic Leadership Summit

Dear MYO Middle and High School Students,

As part of helping our students prepare for their future success, MYO will host and recommend events that focus on important life skills beyond music. One of those is:

Jack and Jill of America Fifth Annual
"2010 YES To Our Future!" Youth Economic Leadership Summit

The Indianapolis Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. is currently accepting applications from qualified high school and middle school students who have strong leadership potential to participate in a workshop designed to educate students on the importance of money management and building wealth. There will be three financial literacy tracks: Fundamentals 101, for middles school students and Entrepreneurship or Stock Market for high school students with a special workshop for senior called Senior Survival Boot Camp. Each session will be facilitated by local business, finance and community leaders. Participants in the YES To Our Future! Youth Economic Leadership Summit may open savings account on-site with a Local Bank. The discipline of saving is the first step to building wealth.

YES To Our Future! Youth Economic Leadership Summit will be on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Butler University, Atherton Union, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Space is limited, so please complete, sign and return the application as soon as possible..

Tickets for MYO Families

Attention MYO!

We have been offered free tickets to this weekend's ISO concerts with the Callaway Sisters! Performances are Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 3 PM. Concerts are at the Hilbert Circle Theatre and you can request up to 4 tickets each.

DEADLINE FOR REQUEST = Friday 9 AM

Let Gary know how many tickets and for which performance.
Please note that this concert is not necessarily a family-friendly event and MAY have some adult related banter. I haven't seen their show so I can't speak on the subject specifically. None-the-less, the music will be wonderful. FYI

News Alert Concerning 9/18 Only

Christel House is holding a very important fundraiser event called Braking the Cycle on Saturday, 9/18. About 100+ motorcyclists will be riding to raise money for the school and the SOUTH PARKING LOT will be roped off for the event.

MYO – on this day only – will be asked to park in the NORTH PARKING LOT and enter the building to the right of the High School side of CHA. The building sign says Watanabe High School.

DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDING OUR USUAL WAY NEXT WEEK.

We will have signage posted leading you to the correct door.

PLAY-A-THON
The Annual MYO Play-a-thon is scheduled for Saturday, October 9. Materials were distributed at the orientations; however, we have additional notices available today. Student entry forms are due returned by 9/25.

RELEASE FORMS
Participation, photo and medical releases must be in ASAP. These forms were available at orientation. Notices will be mailed this week to those families who are missing forms. Please note that these forms are required for participation in MYO.

LESSON TEACHERS
Orchestra A & B students should have received contact from their lesson teachers. If you have not heard anything or do not know who your teacher is, please let Carol know as soon as possible. We are still in the process of scheduling Orchestra C & D student lessons. Orchestra D parents were notified at the 9/11 rehearsal of our progress. If your child is in Orchestra C and you do not know who your teacher is, please let Carol know as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and help in communication!

For the week of 9/7/10

WELCOME!
We welcome all MYO families for another fantastic year! As we welcome each other, let’s also welcome Anne Case, MYO intern for the Fall Semester. Anne is finishing up her degree in piano performance from Oberlin Conservatory and has experience teaching at Interlochen Summer Arts program and the YOURS program in Chicago. She will be working in the MYO office on Wednesdays and at Saturday rehearsals. Please welcome Anne!!
